polar M

Leading up to the time of the Marihiko Hara release 'Credo' on Home Normal in 2011, he sent us over the work of his friend Masumi Muranaka (polar M). We decided to put his superb debut 'Northern Birds' out on our sister label Nomadic Kids Republic. The album was met with critical acclaim and we had to re-issue it three times in quick succession due to demand in Japan. He has since gone on to perform and record more work, becoming recognised as one of the most unique voices in the Japanese electronic scene today.

We are very proud that he will be releasing with us on Home Normal in 2014. Masumi also contributed a remix to the Geskia! bonus album '323 Sayonara Memories Remixed' in 2012.

Here's a little more information about polar M (Japanese):

Polar M is the solo project of Masumi Muranaka who resides in Kyoto, Japan. His beautiful soundscapes are created mostly by electric guitar, and he is also a guitarist for musicians of various genres in Japan. Apart from his own work being regularly played in local cafes, apparel shops, exhibitions and the like, he has also made a series of performances with contemporary improvised dance. Many of his works are used for short films and image arts which has led to a lot of collaborative work. Given that polar M majored in image arts and sciences, as well as working as an illustrator, this is perhaps not such a surprise.
